About the company
With the aim to decarbonise  the chemicals industry, Cyclic Bio produce chemicals directly from CO2. We engineer microorganisms to directly convert CO2 into high-value chemicals, replacing those currently obtained from fossil fuels or tropical agriculture. 


The role

Your main objective is to contribute towards our first prototype, by engineering and optimizing the prokaryotic bioproduction strains. You will be working in collaboration with the whole team and reporting to the CSO and management team.


As one of our first hires, there is a tremendous opportunity to grow with the company, with potential benefits including increased remuneration, options for equity and greater responsibilities, incl. Management.


In this role you will:

  • Design, implement and optimize bioproduction strains using a cyclic DBTL cycle

  • Identify, engineer and evaluate new genetic parts

  • Ensure strains have FTO and comply with regulatory requirements (GMO, chemicals)

  • Stay up to date with literature

  • Innovate and work conscientiously

  • Report regularly to the rest of the team

  • Proactively stay informed and comply with health & safety regulations

Essential skills:

  • Master’s in Synthetic Biology, Metabolic Engineering or similar fields or

  • Bachelor's degree minimum in Synthetic Biology, Biochemistry or Molecular Biology or similar fields and at least one year’s industrial experience

  • Practical experience with engineering the metabolism of prokaryotic microorganisms

  • Extensive experience with routine molecular biology techniques

  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)

  • Planning, organisational, prioritising and decision-making skills

  • Ability to think outside the box and lack of hesitation for solving problems

  • Strong attention to detail ensuring that work is consistently to a high standard


Desirable skills:

  • PhD in synthetic biology / metabolic engineering

  • Practical experience with engineering synthetic metabolic pathways

  • Practical experience with enzymology and/or protein engineering

  • Experience with automated liquid handlers such as Opentrons, Tecan Evo etc

  • Experience with GMO regulations
